Worth The Drive Bakery
About This Spot
Stepping into Worth The Drive Bakery feels like entering a warm embrace in the heart of Monte Vista’s quiet rhythms. This is not just a spot to grab a quick bite; it’s a welcoming pause where the comforting scent of freshly baked bread mingles with the soft murmur of neighbors exchanging stories. The pace here invites you to slow down and savor the simple pleasure of an authentic local bakehouse, where every loaf, pie, and pastry holds a story of care and craft.
The atmosphere is unpretentious and inviting, fueled by genuine smiles and a sense of community that seems to extend from the ovens to the customers’ hands. Whether you're wandering in early morning to find the shelves fully stocked with hand-formed doughnuts and crusty ciabatta or stopping by after a day exploring the nearby sand dunes, the bakery feels like a well-kept secret everyone is quietly glad to share. The owners’ thoughtful touches—like offering fresh coffee and treats as you shop—make you linger longer, savoring more than just the food.
What sets Worth The Drive apart is how it weaves together elements beyond the typical bakery fare. Alongside the baked goods, there’s a taste of the local landscape in their carefully sourced cheeses, meats, and preserves, giving each visit a layered richness. It’s not just about what’s on the plate but about connecting with the regional flavors and the people who bring them to life. The bakery's thoughtful selection invites discovery, whether you’re drawn to a sweet fried pie bursting with seasonal fruit or a hearty ribeye that customers have found memorable for its depth of flavor.
In essence, this is a place where the journey truly complements the destination. It’s the kind of bakery that rewards a little detour from the ordinary, offering a quietly joyful experience that stays with you long after you’ve left Monte Vista behind.

Yes, the baked items are delicious, but OMG their beef is the absolute best. Just cooked up a ribeye I bought and it was one of the best cuts of beef I’ve ever cooked. Their cheese options are pretty darn awesome too. It definitely is Worth the Drive!

The bread and the cookies are really delicious. Very friendly. I’ll need to find a reason to go visit again.

This bakery is WORTH THE DRIVE . If you're nearby or going to the sand dunes make the 30 min detour and thank me later. Fresh baked breads, local made cheeses, fried hand pies, meats, jams etc. They also provide free fresh made donuts and coffee while you shop. Very sweet and everything is delicious.

Best Strawberry rhubarb fried pies I've had. A must stop place along your travels as you won't be disappointed.

My family and I are in town for a conference at the college, we’re from Durango. This bakery is amazing. The people are so nice and the selection was fully stocked. Granted I was there at 8:15am Thursday morning. Can’t wait to try the jams, they had so many choices!

Best carrot cake I’ve had in many years, if not ever. I live in Colorado Springs and I randomly picked up this carrot cake at Bread and Butter while shopping for something else. I was just happy there was no nuts, because I have an allergy and it’s difficult to find carrot cakes without them. Me and the whole family ate our piece of cake without a single crumb left. Very moist, flavorful, and fresh. The cream cheese frosting was incredible. So glad I happened to pick one up! We will keep checking for other items sold at Bread and Butter until we can make the trip to your bakery.

Prices are reasonable, and the selection is good for a small grocery store. And you can't beat fresh donuts, made fresh three days weekly.
